T.S. Elliot, poetry Award




The T.S.Elliot Poetry Award, went to Derek Walcott for his collection of poems under the title "White Egrets".

The Nobel Laureate's work has been described by the judges as "possibly the last from the hand of a master" , Anne Stevenson who chaired the judging panel paid tribute to the poet , saying that White Egrets was " a moving risk taking & technically flawless book by a great poet". This event also highlighted what a love there is for poetry as according to the independent newspaper over 2000 lovers of  poetry congregated in the Royal Albert hall to listen to a series of readings by the ten shortlisted Poets.

    Loved the stemless glasses in your new years post. Gorgeous! Wish I could drink but my liver won't let me... such is life.

    I have had Ilustrado on my list for a while now and am glad to see that you liked it. I do think you are the first person I know who has read it. I do love the fact it has fantastical elements.

    Also cant wait to see what you think of your current read... Italian Folktales and to see if you find any similarities with it and those from other countries.

    Now to dig into your Gilgamesh post since I am never ever going to read it.

  4. Hello & thanks for your comments, Shellie. The glasses are gorgeous aren't they, not suitable for tasting malt whisky, but beautiful anyway. Ilustrado I loved & can't wait to see what he'll write next, some people have said he was a tad over ambitious, but if Ilustrado is the result, may he be so again. Calvino's Italian Folktales has about 200 tales ,some are tales that have crossed many borders before reaching Calvino's pen, so similarities abound. As for Gilgamesh, if t
